Mercedes-Benz is planning to merge its S-Class and EQS sedan lines to launch new models including combustion engine cars and electric vehicles under a unified design language. This strategic adjustment is a direct response to the brand's current market performance, especially the challenges it faces during its electrification transformation.

It is reported that the S-Class and EQS sedans will undergo major updates in 2025 and 2026 respectively.Mercedes-Benz plans to launch a new generation of flagship models before 2030, which will mark the official merger of the S-Class and EQS series.

Recently, the company had to reduce production at its Sindelfingen plant in Germany because sales of the S-Class and EQS failed to meet expectations.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz has postponed its target of having electric vehicles account for 50% of its sales mix from 2025 to 2030.

Company CEO Ola Kallenius has also confirmed that Mercedes-Benz will increase investment in internal combustion engine powertrains and plans to continue selling traditional cars for the foreseeable future.

This shows that although electrification is a general trend in the automotive industry, Mercedes-Benz will still maintain its emphasis and investment in internal combustion engine models in the process of realizing this transformation.
