LG's "RDE" OLED material group will apparently be used in the upcoming 11- and 13-inch iPad Pro models, while the next-generation MacBook, scheduled to launch in 2027, will use LG's subsequent "RDG" OLED material group.
Historically, LG Display's original "RD" series material sets were applied to IT products and automobiles indiscriminately, but with the launch of "RDE" and subsequent material sets, LG hopes to divide its OLED materials to ensure professional applications in different industries. This means that future OLED Apple devices will be able to use OLED material sets tailored to their unique needs.
The OLED panels designed for the upcoming iPad Pro and MacBook models use a double-layer series structure, consisting of two light-emitting layers stacked on top of each other. The dual-layer OLED design can produce the same brightness as a single-layer OLED, but consumes significantly less power and has a longer service life. The iPhone currently uses a single-layer stacked OLED display with only one light-emitting layer.
