Recently, according to TBSNews, Nintendo assisted the Japanese police in arresting a 32-year-old man suspected of selling cracked archives of the 3DS game "Pokémon: Sun/Moon". The man was suspected of violating Japan's Unfair Competition Prevention Act.
Police found that some of the merchandise sold by the man, priced at 5,200 yen, included "archive data of more than 800 Pokémon," which included not only seventh-generation ordinary Pokémon, but also countless limited edition Pokémon that could only be obtained through movie events and similar limited events.
The man was tracked down and the archived data was submitted to Nintendo, which confirmed that the archived data had been tampered with. One computer and 37 game software were confiscated from the man's home. He has admitted the charges and the case is still under investigation.
It is reported that those who violate Japan's Unfair Competition Prevention Law will face up to five years in prison and a fine of more than 5 million yen.
