At the SC23 conference in Denver, the PCI-SIG team released a message announcing the naming of the next generation PCIExpress cable - CopprLink. In a brief announcement emailed, PCI-SIG shared the news:

"PCI-SIG announced that the new naming scheme for PCIe internal and external cables will be CopprLink™. PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 6.0 internal and external cable specifications are currently under development and are expected to be released in 2024."

CopprLink will be the name for upcoming PCIe5 and PCIe6 internal/external cables. Although it won't be released until next year, at SC23 they will be showing various PCIe demos for HPC.

There are no other details available yet about these upcoming CopprLink PCIe cables. The name can be said to be a bit strange, not to mention that Patton Electronics has previously launched CopperLink branded Ethernet cables.
