According to Mercedes-Benz official introduction,The motor was developed by British motor company YASA, a 100% owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz.
Compared with traditional radial flux motors, the electromagnetic field of axial flux motors spreads in a direction parallel to the motor's rotation axis, thereby generating a stronger magnetic field within the same volume and bringing more efficient power performance.
therefore,Compared with ordinary radial flux motors, this motor is lighter in weight, more compact in structure, higher in torque density, and more powerful.
It is worth mentioning that this motor not only has extremely strong torque density and power, but its size has also been reduced.
It is reported that thanks to the compact structure of the axial flux motor, compared with current motors with the same output power in pure electric vehicles,An axial flux motor weighs only 1/3 of that and takes up only 1/3 of the space of a radial flux motor.
Mercedes-Benz officials said: The new generation of YASA axial flux motors will be produced at Mercedes-Benz’s Marienfeld plant in Berlin.
In the future, the new motor will be mass-produced on the AMG.EA platform for the first time, and will become a core component of future high-performance pure electric drive systems.
