NVIDIA has completed its acquisition of Israeli startup Run:ai, a company that helps manage and optimize artificial intelligence hardware infrastructure. As part of the acquisition, Run:ai said its software currently only works on NVIDIA's products but will be open source, meaning NVIDIA's competitors such as AMD and Intel will be able to adapt it for their hardware.
"We are eager to build on our current achievements, expand our talented team, and expand our product and market reach. Open sourcing the software will enable it to scale across the entire AI ecosystem," Run:ai told Bloomberg in a statement.
NVIDIA announced its intention to acquire Run:ai in April. The acquisition price rumored at the time was US$700 million. But the deal ran into regulatory hurdles. The European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice have both stated that they will investigate whether NVIDIA's acquisition will harm competition.
The European Commission subsequently approved the deal in December.
