Solidigm has officially ended production of its P44Pro and P41Plus SSDs, marking the company's complete exit from the consumer SSD market. These two products are the only consumer-grade SSDs under the Solidigm brand since its establishment.

The company has also removed all consumer hard drive listings from its website and is now focusing entirely on data center and enterprise storage solutions.

Tom's Hardware learned from an unnamed source familiar with the matter that the decision is another development after Solidigm disbanded its consumer SSD division and laid off employees in October 2023. This was reportedly done to halt the development of consumer-grade SSDs and reallocate resources to enterprise-grade SSDs, which bring in more revenue.

According to reports, the company suddenly halted the development of consumer SSDs just before the planned release of new consumer SSDs. There has been a lot of uncertainty in the field of consumer SSDs recently, as big brands are launching consumer SSDs while also enjoying the profits of enterprise SSDs, and the expansion of artificial intelligence requires a lot of memory chip production capacity.

These larger brands can refine some of their products into consumer-focused segments without much impact on profit margins, since businesses are willing to pay top dollar for SSDs.

Unfortunately, Solidgm did not choose this path, but instead fully entered the enterprise market. Sadly, fewer SSD manufacturers in the consumer space means less competition, and hopefully this trend won't continue.
