Apple said it will release a software update for French iPhone 12 users after French regulators ordered a halt to sales over concerns it violated strict radiation exposure limits. Apple said in a statement to Reuters: "We will release software updates for French users to adapt to the specifications used by French regulators. We look forward to iPhone 12 continuing to be available in France."

Earlier this week, French regulators ordered a ban on sales of iPhone 12 models after testing the phone and found that the phone's specific absorption rate (SAR) - the device's radiofrequency absorption rate by the human body - exceeded European radiation exposure limits. Belgium said it would review France's findings, and Germany, Italy and more countries said they would monitor the situation.
The iPhone 12 first hit the market in late 2020, but France's ANFR regulator has recently tested more than 140 phones to ensure radiation standards are followed.
Apple refuted the claim, saying "this has to do with the specific testing protocols used by French regulators, rather than a safety issue with iPhone 12 itself." French Digital Affairs Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said in a statement to Reuters: "The French National Radio Authority is preparing to conduct a rapid test of this update. "
On the same day that Apple announced that it would launch the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro phones on September 22, concerns about iPhone 12 radiation levels and the French sales ban also emerged.
