For previous iPhones equipped with a Lightning port, Apple restricted the functionality of some cables and accessories that were not certified through its "Made for iPhone" program. There were rumors that Apple might impose similar restrictions on USB-C ports on iPhone 15 models, but this report confirms that is not the case.
According to the report, as with iPads and Macs equipped with USB-C ports, all existing USB cables, chargers and accessories can be used normally on iPhone15 models.
The report pointed out that Apple may still launch a "Made for iPhone" certification program for iPhone accessories equipped with USB-C ports, but it seems that uncertified accessories can also be used normally on these devices.
All four iPhone 15 models are equipped with USB-C ports, but the data transfer speeds vary. The USB2.0 data transfer speed of the low-end iPhone15 and iPhone15Plus is up to 480Mbps, which is equivalent to Lightning, while the iPhone15Pro model supports USB3 data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps.
Apple started taking pre-orders for all four iPhone 15 models earlier today. The devices will be available on Friday, September 22nd.
