On November 22, OpenAI’s personnel crisis took another surprising turn. OpenAI stated that it has reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to resume his position as CEO, and Sam Altman will return to OpenAI as CEO. OpenAI posted, "We have reached a principled agreement that Sam Altman will return to OpenAI as CEO and a new initial board of directors will be formed by Bret Taylor (Chairman), Larry Summers and Adam D'angelo. We are working together to resolve the details. Thank you very much for your patience."
OpenAI founder Sam Altman wrote after returning to the company's CEO position, "I love OpenAI, and everything I have done over the past few days has been to align this team and its mission. When I decided to join Microsoft on Sunday night, it was obvious that this was the best choice for me and the team. With the support of the new board of directors and Satya (Microsoft CEO), I look forward to returning to OpenAI and solidifying our strong partnership with Microsoft."
Microsoft CEO responded to "Ultraman's return to OpenAI" and said he was encouraged by the changes in OpenAI's board of directors. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said he believes this is an important first step on the road to more stable and effective governance. We look forward to building on the strong OpenAI collaboration.
