The official WeChat public account of China National Nuclear Corporation stated that the China National Nuclear Corporation’s China Institute of Atomic Energy’s “BNCT Strong Current Proton Cyclotron Prototype Development” project successfully passed technical acceptance.This marks the successful development of the first boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) prototype in China based on a high-current cyclotron.It provides a solid guarantee for the next step of BNCT commercial machine finalization and clinical technology research, and effectively promotes the next step of the transformation of BNCT equipment results.

According to reports, BNCT is one of the most cutting-edge cancer targeted therapy technologies in the international tumor treatment field in recent years.It can be used in the treatment of head and neck tumors, melanoma and other cancers.

The "BNCT Strong Current Proton Cyclotron Prototype Development" project team formed by the Institute of Nuclear Technology and the Institute of Reactor Engineering Technology of the Institute of Atomic Energy has successfully made breakthroughs in high current cyclotron technology, neutron target and moderator technology, and achieved mA-level current intensity extraction capabilities of small cyclotrons.
