According to Indian media reports, Indian billionaire Narayana Murthy reiterated in his latest speech that he hopes that young people in the country can voluntarily work 70 hours per week. Murthy is the founder of Indian IT giant Infosys and the father-in-law of British Prime Minister Sunak.
He pointed out during the conversation: "India is one of the least efficient countries in the world. If we do not improve work efficiency, we will not be able to compete with those countries that have made huge progress."
According to the International Labor Organization, Indians already have one of the longest working hours in the world, with an average employee working about 47.7 hours per week, ranking seventh in the world after Qatar, Congo, Lesotho, Bhutan, Gambia and the United Arab Emirates.
Many Indian technology entrepreneurs say that while hard work is important, working 70 hours a week can be exhausting and stifle creativity.
Stimulating people's minds, rather than exhausting them, drives innovation and puts countries at the pinnacle of global progress.
