Forbes recently reported that Russia’s Internet Development Institute (IDI) is preparing to build a new gaming platform that can replace Steam, aiming to reduce the impact of Western “destructive content”, promote the development of the BRICS gaming industry, and achieve more equal international cooperation.

IDI plans to create a Steam-independent platform for BRICS countries (including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), focusing on borderless games to protect users from "damaging information."

IDI believes that the current game industry relies too much on European and American companies, making it difficult to achieve equal cooperation between countries. The new platform will allow BRICS countries to distribute game content according to independent standards, thereby promoting the development of the local game industry.

However, according to industry analysis, this idea still faces many challenges and may be difficult to implement in the short term. Russian gaming company Astrum Entertainment pointed out that the plan requires coordination of legal revisions in multiple countries, which will be difficult to achieve in the short term. In addition, the Russian Ministry of Digital Development stated that it has not yet received specific proposals, indicating that the idea is still in its early stages.
