With the launch of the Radeon RX9070 series, AMD's GPU market share in Japan has risen rapidly and reached a record high. AMDRDNA4 appears to be performing in line with or even exceeding the company's expectations. In various regions, GPU sales are rapid, and there are even shortages. While we're seeing the RX9070 series selling out quickly in most places, the Japanese GPU market is undergoing its most drastic change ever.
Apparently, this is the first time it has reached nearly 50% GPU market share. AMD representatives held a roundtable meeting with ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire and other board partners to discuss GPU and other issues. When asked about the supply of GPUs, AMD's Mr. Yoshiaki Sato responded that "AMD is not used to selling so many graphics cards...", but he quickly responded that their market share is as high as 45%, which is at its peak.
The Japanese company AMD wants to sell more GPUs, but they don't have enough GPUs to sell right now. However, this does not prevent AMD from increasing its GPU market share to 70%. Currently, NVIDIA still occupies the largest GPU market share, and it is time for NVIDIA to increase the supply and availability of the RTX50 series. However, considering the performance of the RX9070 series graphics cards compared to the RTX5070 series graphics cards, it does not seem impossible for AMD to gain a higher GPU market share.
The only issues that need to be resolved are supply and price, which are uncontrollable dilemmas for both Nvidia and AMD GPUs. Just yesterday we saw some board partners (like Asus) increasing the prices of RTX50 series and RX9070 series GPUs to 1.5-2.0x the actual MSRP. It is said that prices will stabilize in a few weeks, but prices may not drop from the guide price, because suppliers have been saying that the profits they make from custom cards are very thin, and the majority is taken by chip companies.
