Nintendo has announced a new date for Switch 2 pre-orders to begin in the United States:April 24. Nintendo said the Switch 2 will remain on sale for $449.99, despite concerns that the Trump administration's new tariffs will cause the price to rise.
However, Nintendo also said that Switch 2 accessories will become more expensive. The Switch 2 Joy-Cons, Pro Controllers, and Switch 2 Camera have all increased in price. The Joy-Cons were originally $89.99, now on sale for $94.99. The Pro controller is also up $5, from $79.99 to $84.99. Finally, the price of the Switch 2 camera has also increased from $49.99 to $54.99.

Pre-orders were originally scheduled to begin on April 9, but Nintendo delayed them due to the Trump administration's announcement of new tariffs.
Specifically, Nintendo has delayed pre-orders "to assess the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions." At the time, the company said the Switch 2's original release date of June 5 would "remain unchanged."
On April 8, Nintendo also announced that it would be delaying Canadian Switch 2 pre-orders "to align with the upcoming pre-order timing in the United States." According to this news, Canada will also be able to pre-order the Switch 2 on April 24.
Nintendo's announcement of new pre-order dates comes after President Trump announced on April 9 that he had approved a 90-day pause in tariffs outside of China.
The initial pre-order date was announced at the big Nintendo Switch 2 launch event. At the press conference, Nintendo also announced that the Switch 2 will be priced at $449.99, and there will be a $499.99 version that includes "Mario Kart World." In its announcement, Nintendo reiterated that the price of the Mario Kart World bundle will remain unchanged, as will the prices of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Banana ($69.99).
The Switch 2 looks like a major upgrade over the original Switch, with a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen, larger Joy-Con controllers, and more. In addition to Mario Kart World, Nintendo also showed off Donkey Kong Banana, a new 3D Donkey Kong game that will be released on July 17.
The new pre-order date also comes after Sony increased the price of PS5 models in the EU, UK, Australia and New Zealand due to "challenging economic conditions".
Nintendo concluded its announcement with an apology: "We apologize for the delay in retail pre-orders and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing."
