OpenAI will delay the launch of its GPT store until early next year, according to a memo to developers seen by Axios. The store was originally scheduled to open last month, where people could publish customized versions of ChatGPT.
OpenAI's announcement of the launch of custom GPT and supporting stores was a highlight of last month's DevDay conference.
"We now plan to launch the GPT store early next year," OpenAI said in the memo. "While we originally expected to launch this month, something unexpected happened and kept us busy!"
Currently, custom GPTs can be shared directly via links, and with a store, developers will be able to publish them more widely. OpenAI also said it plans to share some of the revenue from ChatGPTPlus subscriptions with developers who create popular GPTs, but specific details have not yet been announced.
"In the meantime, we will be making other major updates to ChatGPT soon," the company told developers. "Thank you for investing the time to create GPT".
It's been a tumultuous time for the company, with CEO Sam Altman fired and then rehired in less than a week.
