According to CNBC reports on July 4, OpenAI co-founder IlyasutskVail(Ilya Sutskever) announced that he will personally serve as the CEO of Safe Superintelligence, an artificial intelligence startup he founded last year. Before that, Meta had just poachedDaniel·Gross(Daniel Gross). Gross is a long-time active entrepreneur and AI investor who previously served as CEO of Safe Superintelligence.
Suzkwer posted on X that Gross's work in the company has entered the final handover stage and he has officially resigned on June 29. Safe Superintelligence co-founder Daniel Levy will become president of the company, while the technical team will continue to report to Sutzkville.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has recently been spending billions of dollars to recruit AI talents. The most notable one is a $14 billion investment in Scale AI. This deal has recruited the company's founder Wang Tao and a small group of core engineers.
However, Gross’s name did not appear on the latest list of talents mentioned by Zuckerberg.
Gross did not respond to CNBC's request for comment.
According to an earlier report by CNBC, when Zuckerberg was recruiting AI talents, Meta tried to acquire Safe Superintelligence, but was rejected by Suzkowir. In a financing round in April this year, Safe Superintelligence was reportedly valued at $32 billion.
Suzkowir reiterated Thursday that the company will continue to operate independently.
"You may have heard that there are companies that want to acquire us. We are deeply honored by their attention, but we will focus on completing our unfinished business." Suzkowir wrote, "We have the computing power, we have the team, and we know what to do. Together, we will continue to build safe superintelligence."
Suzkowir previously served as chief scientist at OpenAI and co-led the OpenAI Superalignment team with Jan Leike. Lake has left to join rival Anthropic.
