During the recent second-quarter earnings call,AMD has reiterated its multi-year partnership with Microsoft, confirming that it is developing custom chips that will power the next-generation Xbox platform. It is worth noting thatAMD also mentioned that this custom chip will not only be used in the next generation of Xbox game consoles, but also suitable for PCs and handheld consoles. This means that Microsoft plans to provide a unified chip solution across multiple platforms in its next-generation Xbox ecosystem.
AMD is already developing custom SoCs for Sony's next-generation PlayStation and Microsoft's next-generation Xbox. AMD's FSR 4 technology is co-developed with Sony, so both parties have cooperation in multiple fields. AMD's Z2 series SoC has also been used in Microsoft and the ROG Xbox Ally developed in partnership with Asus.
APUs have long been the closest thing to a custom host SoC on PCs, and AMD's latest "Ryzen AI MAX" series shows what it's capable of on these chips.
Therefore, Microsoft may aim to provide the same chip solution across multiple platforms through its next-generation Xbox ecosystem.
