Leaker "Majin Bu" has reiterated the possibility of Apple releasing a so-called "liquid silicone" case for the iPhone 17 series. A leaker shared a short video on the iPhone X today, showing off a silicone case that appears to be standard for the iPhone 17, based on the dual rear camera design.
It is worth noting that there are a pair of small holes in the lower left and right corners of the protective case for attaching lanyards, which may be sold separately by third-party brands. With the lanyard, users can secure their iPhone to their wrist while taking photos and other operations.
There is precedent for such a design. For example, the charging box of AirPods Pro 2 has an opening for connecting a lanyard. Apple doesn't offer its own AirPods Pro 2 lanyard, but does offer a variety of third-party lanyard options through its online store. Additionally, the fifth-generation iPod touch has a built-in lanyard mechanism that doesn't even require a case.
If the case is indeed designed by Apple, it might also rule out rumors of iPhone 17 models getting a second camera control button.
If true, the "Liquid Silicone" name appears to be based on iOS 26's new "Liquid Glass" design.
Based on the video alone, we can't tell if the case is from Apple, Beats, or another brand. It also remains to be seen whether the name "liquid silicone" is true. We'll find out soon though, as Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series in less than a month.
