Recently, a large-scale survey released by gaming media Push Square showed that Sony’s decision to completely stop producing physical game discs starting in 2028 is causing a sharp rise in dissatisfaction among long-term PlayStation users.

The massive poll on the Push Square website attracted participation from more than 6,500 loyal readers and console users. The survey results show:

• 45% of respondents said they are currently seriously considering abandoning Sony consoles entirely in favor of PCs as their primary gaming platform.

• 15% of respondents said they have completed the transition to using the Steam ecosystem as their primary gaming platform.

The main reason why players want to switch platforms is to lose control of their personal game library. Giving up physical discs means users can no longer trade games, sell completed titles on the second-hand market, or display physical collections at home. In addition, players have also expressed serious concerns about the monopoly status of the PlayStation Store - digital versions of games are often priced much higher on the PS store than on the PC platform.

Meanwhile, Digital Foundry, a team of technology experts, has launched a similar independent survey among its audience. The survey attracted 68,000 people to vote, and the vast majority of participants expressed strong condemnation of Sony's radical digital policy. In the comments section, a large number of console users claimed that the current generation will be their last PlayStation, and that there will be a large-scale migration to the more open PC platform.
