ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X will be released on October 16, and they will be equipped with a new "Xbox full screen experience (FSE)" mode. This mode will allow the handheld console to boot directly into the Xbox App instead of loading the Windows desktop completely.
Microsoft said that because it does not require a complete boot of the Windows system, Xbox FSE can allocate more system resources to games to achieve performance optimization.Although ASUS handheld consoles will be the first to support Xbox FSE, this feature is not permanently exclusive. Microsoft plans to gradually push it to other devices, including the original ROG Ally and Ally X.
Recently, Lenovo confirmed in an interview with The Verge that Xbox FSE will also be launched on its latest high-end Windows handheld console Legion Go Gen 2 at a later date. This will be the first manufacturer besides ASUS to confirm support for FSE.
The Lenovo Legion Go Gen 2 will also be available in October this year, equipped with an 8.8-inch OLED screen, a 144Hz refresh rate, a detachable controller, and an AMD Ryzen processor similar to the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X. The basic version is priced at US$1,099, while the highest-end version, equipped with a stronger processor, 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage, is priced at US$1,479.
However, Legion Go Gen 2 will not come with Xbox FSE at launch. Lenovo spokesman Jeff Witt revealed to the media that this feature is expected to be available on the handheld console in the spring of 2026.
Once online, players will be able to manually switch Lenovo Go Gen 2 from standard Windows mode to Xbox FSE, freeing up resources for better gaming performance.
