Starting with the upcoming iOS 17.2 software update, iPhone users can quickly share boarding passes, movie tickets, and other Wallet app passes with another iPhone user using a new feature similar to NameDrop.
To use this feature, open the wallet app and tap on the pass you want to share. Then, hold the iPhone close to the top of the other iPhone, and a "Share" button will appear below the boarding pass. Finally, tap the Share button to send the pass to another iPhone via AirDrop, both iPhones must be updated to iOS 17.2.
While it's already possible to share many Wallet app passes via AirDrop, Messages, Mail, and more via iOS' share menu, this new feature aims to provide a faster and more convenient method. It works similarly to the NameDrop feature in iOS 17, which allows users to quickly share contact information by bringing two iPhones together.
The feature is mentioned in the iOS 17.2 release notes: "AirDrop improvements include expanded contact sharing options and the ability to share boarding passes, movie tickets, and other eligible passes by bringing two iPhones together."
The software update is in the final stages of testing and should be released next week. iOS 17.2 also includes many other new features and changes, including journal applications, spatial video recording for iPhone 15 Pro models, multiple improvements to the Messages and Weather applications, favorite song playlists in Apple Music, and more.
