According to reports, Tesla has made a technological breakthrough in integrated die-casting. Through this technology,Tesla can die-cast almost all the complex underbody parts of its electric vehicle as a whole, instead of just about 400 parts. This technology will halve Tesla's production costs or change the traditional way of manufacturing electric vehicles.

Sources said the new manufacturing technology means the company can develop a car from scratch in 18 to 24 months, compared with the three to four years it currently takes most rivals.

In addition, compared with the traditional manufacturing process, when the Tesla Model Y rear floor using the integrated die-casting process encounters a collision, there will be no tearing of the car body due to the presence of welding spots or welding seams being impacted, which can improve the safety of the vehicle.

However, integrated die-casting parts also have the problem of poor repairability. Once the part is damaged, a new part must be replaced. The maintenance cost is higher than that of parts manufactured by traditional processes, and it is a ‘one-shot deal’ component.

Previously, a Tesla owner complained that his Model Y accidentally hit a wall when reversing. It seemed that the damage to the car was not serious, but the rear part of the car was damaged. The overall repair cost exceeded 110,000 yuan. The insurance company finally settled the total loss claim for the owner.
