Google announced that its Gemini AI assistant has officially landed on the Google TV smart TV platform. The first supported devices are TCL’s newly released QM9K series TVs. It will be expanded to more TVs and streaming media boxes equipped with the Google TV system in the following years.

This upgrade allows Google TV users to use "Hey Google" voice wake-up or activate the assistant by pressing the Mic button on the remote control. In addition to the basic functions of Google Assistant (such as on-demand TV series and searching for programs), they can also start a "free conversation" with Gemini, such as recommending programs by describing plot details, preferred genres, popular trends, etc., or asking Gemini to review the episodes they are currently following.
Google demonstrated in its official blog a variety of application scenarios using Gemini to obtain program recommendations suitable for the whole family and make viewing suggestions based on recent popular programs. In addition to content retrieval, users can also ask Gemini broader questions, such as "Why do volcanoes erupt?" or "Can you recommend a dessert that can be made within an hour?" Gemini will provide detailed voice responses and simultaneously recommend related YouTube video resources.

In addition to the TCL QM9K series, Google also confirmed that Gemini will be available on the already released Google TV Streamer 4K, Walmart Onn 4K Pro, and some new 2025 Hisense and TCL models within the year. It is worth mentioning that during CES 2025, Samsung and LG also announced that they would introduce Microsoft Copilot AI assistant to new smart TVs, showing that competition in the AI TV assistant market is becoming increasingly fierce.
