Samsung Electronics has begun supplying advanced automotive chips for electric vehicles produced by BMW, according to people familiar with the matter, marking a breakthrough for Samsung Electronics in expanding its auto parts portfolio. Sources revealed that Samsung Electronics has provided Exynos Auto V720 chips for BMW's new iX3 electric car, becoming BMW's main semiconductor partner for the software-defined vehicle (SDV) project.
The new iX3 is a medium-sized electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) based on BMW's advanced electric vehicle platform "Neue Klasse". The model was launched in September and is scheduled to be launched in South Korea in the second half of 2026.
According to sources, Samsung Electronics will also provide Exynos chips for other next-generation BMW electric vehicles.
It is reported that the company plans to provide Exynos Auto V920 processor for the upcoming next-generation BMW 7 Series model.
Samsung Electronics' Exynos Auto processor series powers in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, delivering navigation information and high-quality multimedia content.
Samsung Electronics previously provided Exynos processors to Audi and Volkswagen in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
