Against the background of a serious shortage of global memory chip supply, China's two major storage giants are accelerating expansion to seize market opportunities. According to Nikkei Asia,China's two leading memory chip manufacturers, Changxin Memory and Yangtze Memory, have launched the largest production expansion plan in history, striving to narrow the gap with international leaders such as Samsung and SK Hynix.
According to reports, as China's largest DRAM manufacturer, Changxin Memory is building a new factory in Shanghai, and the new production capacity will be two to three times that of its Hefei headquarters base.
The factory plans to start equipment installation in the second half of 2026 and officially put into production in 2027. Its products cover servers, PCs, automotive electronics and other fields. At the same time, the company is also expanding its HBM production line in Shanghai to target the demand for AI computing power.
Someone familiar with the matter said,Changxin Storage's two factories in Hefei and Beijing are already operating at full capacity. "The demand from local companies is extremely strong, and the company hopes to expand production capacity as soon as possible."
As for China's leading NAND manufacturer Yangtze Memory, it is also building a third factory in Wuhan and plans to put it into production in 2027.
According to reports, Yangtze Memory has made clear its production capacity plan for the new plant. In addition to producing NAND, 50% of its production capacity will be used for DRAM manufacturing. It will also cooperate with local storage packaging companies to develop and produce HBM for artificial intelligence computing scenarios.
