Blockchain games are returning to the market with Epic Games. Games classified as "Adults Only" by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) - typically games with excessive nudity or violence - are strictly prohibited from the Epic Games Store. But the market announced today that blockchain games that are classified as "adults only" due to their use of blockchain are exceptions to this rule.

"Some blockchain-based games have received Adults Only (AO) ratings from industry rating agencies due to their particular blockchain implementation," Epic Games spokesman Brian Sharon said in a statement. "We have updated the Epic Games store content policy to allow games rated AO solely for their use of blockchain or NFT technology."

Sharon said policies banning pornography, gambling and hateful content remained in place. (Epic says blockchain games cannot facilitate gambling).

For example, Gods Unchained and Striker Manager 3 were recently kicked off Epic's marketplace due to their 18-and-over rating, and both games are back on the store thanks to the new policy shift.

AdultsOnly is the ESRB's strictest rating, and some stores don't sell AO-rated games at all. While Steam and Itch.io allow AO-rated games to be sold on their marketplaces, users can filter them out. Steam does not allow blockchain games.
