Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday that it would include more devices in its self-repair program, including foldable phones for the first time. It is reported that Samsung announced in the summer of 2022 that it would cooperate with iFixit, a well-known dismantling organization, to launch a self-service repair plan. The program provides Galaxy users with the opportunity to obtain original accessories, allowing them to replace the screen, back glass, charging port, speakers, SIM card tray, side buttons, and volume buttons of their Galaxy smartphones.

Likewise, GalaxyBook series users can also repair the front and rear casings, display, battery, touchpad, power button with fingerprint reader, rubber feet, fans and speakers.

The plan was initially only applicable to Samsung Galaxy S21/S20 series mobile phones and Galaxy Tab S7+ tablets, but the Galaxy S22 series and some Galaxy Pro laptops will be added in early 2023.

Today, Samsung Electronics has extended the program to Galaxy foldable screen phones including Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 for the first time, providing additional convenience and choice for Galaxy users. The company said that by December, more Galaxy products will join the program, including the Galaxy S23 series, Tab S9 series and Galaxy Book 2 Pro series.

Samsung's self-repair program was initially only available in the U.S. but expanded to South Korea, Brazil, Mexico and select European countries earlier this year. Now, Samsung is expanding the program's coverage to an additional 30 countries in Europe, including Denmark, Greece, Hungary and Portugal.

A few months ago, Google offered DIY repair options for its foldable phones for the first time with the Pixel Fold. However, repair parts for Pixel Fold are expensive, with the inner screen alone costing $900.
