Zheng Qiang no longer serves as Secretary of the Party Committee of Taiyuan University of Technology

According to the official website of Taiyuan University of Technology, on the afternoon of December 22, the school held a meeting of cadres and teachers to announce the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee’s decision on the appointment and removal of the Party Secretary of Taiyuan University of Technology. The Shanxi Provincial Party Committee decided that Comrade Shen Xingquan will be appointed as the Party Secretary of Taiyuan University of Technology; due to age, Comrade Zheng Qiang will no longer serve as the Party Secretary of Taiyuan University of Technology.

Public information shows that Zheng Qiang was born in Chongqing in September 1960 and is a native of Wuyishan, Fujian. He is a member of the Communist Party of China, a doctor of engineering, a professor, and a doctoral supervisor.

Zheng Qiang received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Zhejiang University, Chengdu University of Science and Technology (now Sichuan University) and Sichuan University respectively. He later studied as a doctoral student under joint Sino-Japanese training at Kyoto University in Japan. After returning from studying abroad, he joined the Department of Polymers at Zhejiang University to teach.

Zheng Qiang has served as deputy dean of the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering and director of the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, deputy provost and executive vice dean of the undergraduate college, dean of Qiushi College, and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University. In May 2012, he was appointed president and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Guizhou University. In December 2016, he was appointed deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University (department level). In April 2020, he was appointed secretary of the Party Committee of Taiyuan University of Technology.

Because of his distinctive personality and daring style of speaking and doing, Zheng Qiang has attracted a lot of attention on the Internet and is known as the "Internet Celebrity Professor" and "Internet Celebrity Principal".

At today's meeting, Vice Governor of Shanxi Province Zhao Hongyan pointed out that since Comrade Zheng Qiang took office as Secretary of the Party Committee of Taiyuan University of Technology, he has strengthened the party's political construction and cadre team building, adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, promoted discipline construction and scientific and technological innovation, and made positive contributions to the high-quality development of the school.

In his speech, Zheng Qiang thanked the members of the school’s leadership team and all the school’s faculty and staff for their support and help, and wished Taiyuan University of Technology prosperity in all its undertakings and greater achievements in the new era and new journey.
