After the Windows 11 Moment 4 update was launched at the end of September, the next Moment update is coming. The next time is Windows 11 Moment 5. The preview release is expected to be in February 2024, and it will be released to all Windows 1123H2 users through cumulative updates in March 2024.

Windows Central issued an article today introducing part of the Moment5 update. The main update content is the new features added to the development version during this period. At the same time, in order to meet the requirements of the EU Digital Market Act, Microsoft has provided some additional privileges for users in the European Economic Area, such as deleting the Microsoft Edge browser.

Release time:

Microsoft is expected to complete the development of Moment5 in February next year, then release it to preview users in late February, and launch it to all Windows 1123H2 users on Patch Tuesday in March 2024.

Different from before, Moment5 will only be pushed to users of Windows 1123H2 version. If the user is using version 22H2, they will not receive the push.

EEA-specific features:

In order to meet the requirements of relevant EU laws, users in the European Economic Area will support deleting the Microsoft Edge browser, modifying the default search engine of the Windows search box to other searches instead of forcing the use of Bing search, the Windows 11 widget panel can close various types of information provided by Microsoft MSN, and the widget panel can set up third-party news sources, etc.

There are also features that are available to users in the European Economic Area but are also supported in other markets, such as the ability to delete Cortana, Camera, and Photos apps.

Other features and improvements included in Moment5:

The functions and improvements mentioned below have basically been tested in the Windows Insider version, including: the Windows nearby sharing function can customize names for other commonly used devices, improve transfer speeds, and the desktop wallpaper will also use Windows Spotlight by default, which means that the daily desktop wallpaper will also be automatically changed.

Copilot:

Copilot is naturally the focus of Microsoft. In the preview version, Microsoft has tested that the Copilot button can be moved to the far right side of the desktop, and at the same time it can release the desktop position, that is, it can be layered on the desktop instead of squeezing out part of the desktop each time.

Other updates are applications and some minor improvements. For example, Notepad adds character statistics, right-clicks to add Open with Notepad, "All Applications" in the start menu is changed to "All", some system components will be marked as system, etc.
