Commodore recently announced that its new flip phone Callback 8020 is open for pre-sale as scheduled, but the starting price has been reduced to US$399 from the previously announced US$499, which has attracted attention. This price adjustment has been described as a "price reduction magic" of about 20% before the product is officially launched, which to a certain extent responds to earlier market doubts about high pricing.

The starting price of $399 includes what officials call an "eco-validated" RAM and storage configuration. The so-called "ecological verification" actually means that this part of memory and storage is remanufactured or recycled products, which is equivalent to reducing costs and environmental burdens by reusing devices while ensuring functionality and reliability. If you insist on purchasing new RAM and storage, you'll have to pay an additional $50, bringing the price to $449.
In terms of appearance color matching, Callback 8020 is available in Basic Beige, SX Silver, ProtoPET White and other colors, as well as Founders Edition and Starlight Edition special editions. Among them, the Founders Edition starts at $640. The main difference is that the body is equipped with a 24K gold-plated "C=" brand button, which is aimed at collectors and brand fans. The official current estimated shipping time is October to November, but it should be noted that although the brand name is Commodore, it is a new company behind it that has not yet had an actual shipment record. Therefore, although the timetable has been announced, there is still uncertainty as to whether there will be an extension, and consumers are reminded to maintain reasonable expectations.
In terms of hardware specifications, Callback 8020 adopts a clamshell shape, with an internal screen of 3.25 inches and a resolution of 480×640, and an external screen of 1.77 inches, which is used to display basic information such as notifications. The core platform is MediaTek Helio G81 SoC, equipped with 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage, and supports expansion memory cards. The whole machine has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and LTE cellular network connection capabilities, and retains a 3.5mm headphone jack. The battery is 1550mAh and has a detachable design.
At the software level, the system design of Callback 8020 intentionally distances itself from traditional smartphones. The device prohibits social media applications, browsers, office applications, and email applications from running at the system level, aiming to control usage scenarios, reduce interference, and be closer to the positioning of feature phones and "light smart" devices. The official also promised not to sell user data to any third party, citing privacy and data security as one of its important selling points.
With the launch of the Callback 8020 at a lower pre-sale price, this new phone, which features a retro clamshell shape, functional restraint and privacy protection, is gaining popularity among retro mobile phone enthusiasts and "digital minimalist" user groups. However, in terms of actual user experience and delivery reliability, the new company’s first product still needs to wait for official launch and market testing.
