In the newly released third developer beta version of iOS 27, Apple has opened to test users the Siri "Pace" and "Expressivity" control options that were previously marked as "coming soon" in the settings, allowing users to more carefully adjust the speed and emotional expression of the AI voice assistant.
This update is seen as part of Apple's process of reshaping Siri around generative AI, aiming to make Siri's interactive experience more natural and personalized to adapt to the use scenarios of the new generation of smart voice assistants.

Apple's new voice control capability allows users to switch between more different accents and timbres in addition to the traditional male and female voice selections, and then use the slider to adjust the speed of Siri's voice playback and the intensity of human emotion contained in its intonation. During the adjustment process, Siri will actively read common prompts such as "You have a new message" to help users instantly experience the actual effects of different voice settings.
Compared with Apple’s expansion pace, competing products such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT have gone further in the level of voice customization. The latter launched the option to adjust the “temperature” and “enthusiasm” of AI as early as December 2025, and allowed users to configure the basic style and tone, such as being more friendly, professional, candid, or funny. These settings are not only reflected in the voice presentation method of ChatGPT, but also directly affect the style and information organization of its text replies.
The new AI version of Siri is deeply integrated into the new version of iOS. Users can start a conversation with it in a variety of ways, including directly calling it by voice, pulling down from the smart island at the top of the screen and entering text, pressing the side button of the phone, or using the new independent Siri application. Apple hopes that through these combinations of entrances, Siri can be integrated into daily operations and can be independently used as a more intelligent AI assistant that is frequently called.
In addition to the Siri update, the third developer beta of iOS 27 also brings some interface and detail-level adjustments, such as updates to the Reminders app icon. However, some users reported on social platforms that they temporarily lost access to the new version of Siri after the upgrade, or saw the device indexing data again after the system update was completed. This is usually a background preparation process carried out by the system to optimize Siri's search capabilities.
