Last week, Sony announced that it would stop producing physical game discs starting in January 2028, a move that triggered a strong backlash among the player community. A petition on Change.org called "Don't Kill Physical Disks" has more than 185,000 signatures as of press time. But players' protests aren't limited to signatures.
Many players have shared screenshots on social media of themselves canceling their PS Plus subscriptions, or at least saying they will do so. Judging from Sony's current actions, players' calls to unsubscribe may indeed have an impact.

According to some users, when trying to cancel an active PS Plus subscription, the system will provide a discounted renewal option. Some people said they received a 50% discount for three months. It should be noted that to enjoy the discount, you need to pay the renewal fee in advance immediately, rather than accepting the offer and waiting until the time of renewal to pay the discounted price.
Not all users received the same discount, and it's unclear whether this is related to region, remaining subscription length, or other factors. But enough users, myself included, did receive offers of prepaid renewal discounts.
Of course, this isn't necessarily a direct response to the wave of PS Plus cancellations. After all, many companies offer discounts when users try to cancel service — which may just be a regular thing. Nonetheless, this is still a phenomenon worthy of attention and discussion.
What do you think about this? Has Sony given up? Welcome to discuss in the comment area.
