According to relevant industry news, as the European Union will officially implement mandatory regulations on the replaceability of batteries in consumer electronics products in 2027, Apple is re-planning the design path of its iconic accessory, Apple Pencil.

As a strategic adjustment to comply with the new regulations, Apple is expected to launch the redesigned Apple Pencil Pro and USB-C version of Apple Pencil simultaneously with the release of the new generation M6 chip iPad Pro in early 2027. The core improvement goal is to achieve more convenient battery removal and replacement.

At present, the design of Apple Pencil mainly uses an integrated plastic shell, which is filled with a large amount of glue. Due to the lack of visible disassembly gaps or screws, it has long been regarded by the outside world as a typical product that is structurally difficult to repair. Faced with the stringent standards that are about to be implemented by the European Union, Apple must completely reshape its product architecture. Although there are currently no details on specific design changes, industry insiders speculate that Apple may consider using the gap at the replaceable pen tip as an internal access point, or optimizing the body structure by reducing the amount of glue used.

Although the industry generally believes that such small electronic products have significant technical challenges and space constraints in achieving battery replaceability, some opinions point out that Apple may be able to improve the waterproof level of the product (such as reaching the IP67 standard) and optimize the battery cycle life, thereby complying with the EU battery performance exemption conditions while avoiding the need for large-scale physical modifications to the product appearance.
