Previously, many users reported that when using Steam Machine to run high-load games or perform performance stress tests, the LED light bar at the bottom of the device would frequently display red light. The original intention of this design is to prevent hardware from overheating and hitting the temperature wall, but in practical applications, the current temperature warning threshold appears to be too sensitive.

Screenshots provided by users show that when the GPU temperature is only 75°C and the CPU temperature is 81°C, the device triggers a red light alarm, and these values are far lower than the safe operating upper limits of current Zen 4 and Zen 5 architecture processors.
In response to this situation, Valve pointed out after confirming with the engineering team that this is a known issue in the BIOS firmware. Although current devices will only trigger performance throttling when the core component temperature reaches 100°C, and will only shut down due to overheating protection after that, the current error reporting mechanism does not match the actual endurance of the hardware, resulting in many unnecessary interruptions to the gaming experience.

To this end, Valve is urgently developing a new BIOS update. After the update is released, the CPU and GPU red light warning temperature thresholds of Steam Machine will be raised to 100°C. Valve said that this adjustment can effectively eliminate the current false alarm phenomenon while ensuring that the device works within a safe operating range. Users need to be reminded that this red light warning has nothing to do with hardware failure. After the update, the device will also add a memory training function.
