According to Xinhua News Agency,A fire broke out in a logistics center of South Korean e-commerce giant Coolpeng on the 18th. The fire lasted for three days and was still not fully controlled. The fire broke out near the vehicle ramp on the 6th floor of the logistics center at 6:54 a.m. on July 18, and then quickly spread to the entire 6th floor and the 7th floor area. Affected by the continuous high temperature, some of the exterior walls of the building have fallen off and deformed.
The logistics center is an 8-story building above ground, with a total construction area of about 299,000 square meters. The area of the 6th floor where the fire broke out alone reached 28,000 square meters, which is approximately equivalent to four standard football fields. The internal shelves are densely packed, the cargo inventory is large, the depth is long, and the ventilation conditions are complex, which makes fire-fighting operations extremely difficult.
The South Korean fire department immediately launched a national fire mobilization order, and a total of 813 firefighters and 231 firefighting equipment were deployed to fight the fire.
Fire department officials said on the 20th that although the fire was under certain control, it would take "longer than expected" to completely extinguish the fire. In addition, due to the large scale of the logistics center, it is currently impossible to predict the specific time for complete control of the fire.
Firefighters are currently working hard to prevent the fire from spreading to the fifth floor area where the warehouse robots are located. These robots are powered by lithium batteries with a total battery capacity equivalent to 20 electric cars. Once a fire breaks out, the fire will quickly spread to the entire building and may cause collapse.
As of 8 pm on the 20th, after 61 hours of continuous fighting, the main fire on site was basically under control, but there were still a large number of hidden fires in the shelves and cargo gaps inside the building. The fire department stated that it would take several days to completely extinguish all the fires.
