Building permits show Apple is planning to open new retail stores in the Los Angeles, Toronto and Atlanta metropolitan areas. Apple is preparing to open a new store at the Del Amo Fashion Center mall in Torrance, California, in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County, according to a building permit submitted in October to the city of Torrance, California.
Apple's new store will be located on the mall's main level, between Lululemon and Madewell. The store will occupy the combined space of two units previously occupied side by side by J.Crew and Chico's.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman first reported Apple's store plans in June after obtaining Apple's internal roadmap for retail expansion. According to the roadmap, Apple estimates the store will open in March 2024, but that timeframe could change based on construction completion, hiring and other factors.
Apple is also moving forward with plans to relocate its store to the Square One shopping center in Mississauga, Ontario, west of Toronto, Canada. According to a building permit filed with the city in June, Apple will take over the space above the mall's second-floor food court previously occupied by Massimo Dutti.
Finally, a building permit filed with Gwinnett County in May confirmed Apple plans to relocate its store at the Mall of Georgia in Buford, northeast of Atlanta. The new store will remain within the shopping center, but the permit did not reveal the exact location.
According to the roadmap, Apple estimates that new stores at Square One and the Mall of Georgia will open by the end of 2023, but the projects will take longer.
Earlier this month, Apple confirmed that it would permanently close its Infinite Loop store in Cupertino, California on January 20. Apple will also close its Royal Hawaiian store in Honolulu on the same day. Apple said all affected employees at both stores will have the opportunity to continue working for the company.
