On January 3, WeChat officially released the "Announcement on Continuous Management of "We-Media" Violations." The announcement stated that WeChat will increase efforts to control issues such as "self-media" rumors, counterfeiting and counterfeiting, further guide "self-media" creators to standardize labeling, effectively fulfill the platform's main responsibilities, continue to implement the "Clearness and Strict Rectification of 'Self-Media' Chaos" special action, the "Notice on Strengthening the Management of "Self-Media"" and other relevant requirements, and strictly deal with relevant illegal accounts and content.
1. Strictly crack down on spreading rumors and remove “self-media” that spread rumors
WeChat attaches great importance to the management of online rumors, focusing on the work requirements for combating rumor-making and spreading in the "self-media" special project. From December 2023 to the present, the platform has disposed of a total of 4,216 pieces of relevant rumor information.
Individual accounts spliced and published old news content and spread false information. In combination with the requirements of the "Notice on Strengthening the Management of "Self-Media"" (hereinafter referred to as the "Notice") and platform rules, the accounts "Creative *** Movement", "Star***111", "Colorful Love" and "Still* Are" were restricted from adding new "fans" and the accounts were banned in a step-by-step manner.
2. Strictly crack down on “self-media” that imitate official institutions, news media and specific professionals
In the process of daily management, we found that there are still some "self-media" accounts that use confusing names, fictitious information, etc. to impersonate official agencies, news media, and specific professionals, and publish content to mislead the public.
From December 2023 to the present, the platform has dealt with a total of 1,268 fake and counterfeit accounts. According to the degree of account violation, the account "Ning**ye" with serious violations will be permanently banned, and the account platform such as "Tong**qi" and "Zhou**ji" will be cleared of information and the account will be banned in a step-by-step manner.
3. Strictly crack down on “self-media” involved in illegal profit-making activities
Recently, the platform has launched a focus on illegal profit-making "self-media". In order to attract traffic, accounts such as "Liu Gu****803" and "Fu*dian" used fake photos to speculate on hot topics and illegally diverted traffic, destroying the platform ecology. In combination with the requirements of the "Notice" and the platform rules, according to the degree of violation, the number of new "fans" will be restricted, the profit-making capacity will be restricted, and the account will be banned.
4. Further standardize the labeling of information sources
In order to further standardize the creative behavior of "self-media", strengthen the management of false information, and actively create a green and safe platform ecosystem, the platform has opened up the one-click check-marking ability of the logo. When publishing content, "self-media" creators can independently select the logo according to the specific situation, and users can also better identify the content based on the logo. Many creators have actively experienced it and proactively checked the content logo in accordance with the requirements of the "Notice" and the platform rules, further helping the platform to optimize the content labeling capabilities.
Some standard marking cases:
A recent inspection of the platform found that when releasing information about hot events at home and abroad, individual "self-media" have not yet carried out standardized labeling. According to the requirements of the "Notice", "self-media" accounts should accurately label the source of the content when publishing and disseminating relevant information to avoid misuse due to lack of information source labeling. Users’ misunderstandings about hot events. For accounts that do not mark information sources in a standardized way, the platform will remind them and restrict the dissemination of unmarked content. For “self-media” accounts that have not been marked in a standardized manner after repeated reminders from the platform, they will be dealt with in accordance with the requirements of the “Notice” and platform rules.
Subsequent platforms will also continue to optimize and improve product functions to provide users with a better experience. At the same time, we also call on "self-media" creators to strengthen self-discipline, standardize their own operating behaviors, and jointly protect a clear online ecosystem.
