Criterion Games, famous for "Need for Speed", is developing the "Battlefield" series. Series lead Vince Zampella issued a statement announcing that the team will be joining EA Entertainment.

"As we've said before, we're fully committed to the Battlefield series. Today, Criterion joins our world-class Battlefield studio dedicated to ushering in a new era for the series." Most of the team will work under the leadership of Byron Beede, General Manager of the Battlefield series, working with well-known studios such as Ripple Effect, Ridgeline and DICE.

"As we continue to develop Battlefield 2042, and as we continue pre-production on new Battlefield-based games, Criterion's experience with Battlefield, our technology, and building engaging experiences will have an immediate positive impact. There can't be a better studio to join us on this journey, and I couldn't be more excited."

Those hoping to see a new Need for Speed or the rumored Need for Speed Most Wanted remaster need not worry, either. Zampella said work on "what's next for Need for Speed" is still ongoing. "Many of you may be familiar with my history in gaming, having worked with incredibly talented teams at EA on Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Star Wars Jedi."

"But what you might not know is that I'm also passionate about racing, which also makes Criterion a perfect fit for me to explore another genre of gaming I love. I'm looking forward to working with the core team to chart the next steps for the series."
