Sony PlayStation is making a strong move and is poised to dominate the gaming market. Since the launch of the original console, PlayStation has maintained a brilliant sales record, and now PS5 has taken over this mantle. In 2023, average daily sales of PS5 will be close to 40,000 units, helping Sony move towards its sales target of 25 million units in fiscal year 23. According to the Famitsu report, the PS5 is even more popular in the Japanese market, with sales twice as high as in 2022, setting a historical record.

Overall, more than 2.58 million PS5 units were sold in Japan in 2023. Although it failed to match Nintendo's strong momentum in the Japanese market, PlayStation's performance is still impressive considering that Nintendo has dominated the market for nearly 20 years.

What's more noteworthy is that Sony has sold nearly 5 million PS5 units in the Japanese market, more than half of which were sold last year, setting a historical record for the gaming giant. Entering 2024, demand for PS5 remains high.

With a range of first-party games appealing to Japanese gamers, PlayStation is expected to become a highly sought-after platform in the region. Games like the highly anticipated samurai adventure Rise of Ronin and Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, due out next month, will play a key role in stimulating demand.

2024 will also see the release of the PS5 Pro, which will entice core gamers to consider purchasing their first PS5 or an additional console. Analysts are already predicting that PS5 shipments will reach 18.5 million units by fiscal 2024, so another strong performance is on the way.
