Amazon officially launches the ability to create AI-generated images on FireTV devices. Starting today, this feature is available to users of the second-generation FireTV Stick 4K Max and FireTV Omni QLED series in the United States.
FireTV’s new features are powered by Amazon’s Titan Image Generator, which the company announced at the AWSre:Invent2023 conference in November. Like other image generators (StabilityAI and OpenAI’s DALL-E3), the Titan model also receives written prompts and converts text into images. In this case, though, the FireTVAI feature is triggered by speaking to Alexa with the TV remote, allowing users to create images with their own voice.
For example, a user can say: "Alexa, create a wonderland background." It then generates four images that users can further customize by choosing from a variety of art styles including impressionism, watercolor, and fantasy. Once the final image is selected, users can save it and set it as their TV wallpaper.
While the Titan model has the ability to customize existing images, FireTV doesn't have this capability at launch. Amazon has not given an update on when users will be able to enter personal photos into the generator.
Image Generator, part of the FireTV Ambient Experience, turns your TV into a smart display that displays artist-made backgrounds or personal photos from your Amazon Photos account. Amazon recently launched this experience on FireTV Stick 4K Max, and it was already available on Amazon’s Omni series of FireTV product lines.
Amazon revealed some FireTV-related updates at its 2023 device launch, such as improved voice search capabilities that will allow users to ask Alexa more specific questions, such as looking up movie titles based on actors, directors, and genres, and even describing movie scenes.
Ahead of today's launch, Amazon is also launching three new AI-powered Alexa-generated experiences, including playing the "20 Questions" game, talking to AI characters, and creating custom songs.
