On January 19, Beijing time, OpenAI’s stated mission is to create general artificial intelligence, or AGI. Demis Hassabis, Google’s leader in artificial intelligence, has the same goal. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that although he does not have an exact definition of general artificial intelligence, he is eager to create artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Zuckerberg revealed that Facebook will use annual salaries of more than $1 million to try to win over key newcomers and prevent researchers from being mined by competitors.
Zuckerberg moved members of Meta's AI research group, FAIR, into the same department at the company, with the goal of bringing Meta's AI more directly to its billions of users.
In addition to the need for talent, the most scarce resource in the AI field is the computing power required to train and run large models. Zuckerberg said Meta is ready. By the end of 2024, Meta will have more than 340,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs - the industry's preferred chip for building generative AI. In 2023, Meta’s NVIDIA’s H100 GPU shipments will be 150,000 units, which is the same as Microsoft’s shipments and more than three times that of all other companies. Zuckerberg said that when other AI chips are included, Meta will have nearly 600,000 GPUs in inventory by the end of 2024.
According to Zuckerberg, a new platform will be launched in 2024 that will allow everyone to create their own AI characters and distribute them to Facebook's social applications, while raising the possibility that these AIs can even publish their own content to platforms such as Facebook.
