After Broadcom successfully acquired VMware, the company has made it clear that subsequent products will shift from buyout versions to subscription versions, which has caused dissatisfaction among many customers. However, this is not all. After large-scale layoffs of the VMware team, Broadcom is now also "layoffs" in the VMware product line.

In an announcement this week, VMware said that a range of its products would be discontinued and no longer available for purchase - although they are still displayed on VMware's official website.

New owner Broadcom said they are simplifying VMware's product portfolio into "some products focused on our best technologies." These products mainly include three major blocks: network and security virtualization platform NSX, application mobile platform HCX and multi-cloud platform bundle vSPhere+.

All licensing options for the eliminated products (detailed list at the end of the article), including perpetual, technical support and subscription, SaaS/hosting and subscription, and all versions/packages/pricing descriptions of each product, will be discontinued unless otherwise notified.

Broadcom emphasized that when customers renew their products in the future, the company will provide customers with the best subscription products to meet their needs.

Broadcom's current approach has caused dissatisfaction among many customers, who are communicating with Broadcom's competitors that they do not want to rely on Broadcom and VMware. VMware's competitors include Nutanix, and analysts expect the company to benefit from this chaos.

Finally, Broadcom is also preparing to sell VMware's end-user computing department for US$5 billion. This department includes VMware Workspace One and Horizon products, respectively used for access control/application management and unified endpoint management platforms, and virtual desktop products.
