Recently, a British Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330 passenger planeThe flight was canceled before takeoff because passengers discovered that four bolts were missing from the plane's wing panel.According to reports, the flight was originally scheduled to fly from Manchester, England to New York, the United States. Phil Hardy, a 41-year-old British passenger, discovered that four screws on the wing were missing while the flight attendant was giving a safety briefing.
After he called the crew, the airline staff repeatedly assured him that there was no safety problem with the wing. However, because of the recent incident of a Boeing passenger plane door falling off at high altitude, which caused a lot of psychological damage to the passengers, the passengers were still worried.
In response, Virgin Atlantic ultimately canceled the flight, saying it "provided time for preventive additional engineering maintenance inspections and ensured that the team had sufficient time to complete the inspections."
Passengers on that flight were rescheduled to an alternate flight to New York, and Virgin Atlantic apologized to passengers whose schedules were delayed.
Afterwards, the Airbus A330 wing engineer said,The affected structure "has 119 parts used for fixation. The missing four bolts will not have an impact on the structural integrity or load capacity of the wing, and the aircraft can operate safely."
