[European Commission Spokesperson: Canada intends to join the EU’s loan plan for Ukraine] September 19th, European Commission spokesperson Uyvari confirmed on the 18th that Canada has expressed its intention to join the EU’s 90 billion euro loan plan for Ukraine, and the two sides are currently negotiating relevant technical details. If Canada joins the program, Ukraine will be able to use the loan to purchase weapons and equipment from Canadian defense companies, thereby expanding its defense procurement options. As a participant, Canada will bear a corresponding proportion of the loan interest, and specific funding arrangements are still under negotiation. Uyvari also said that the EU hopes that allies such as Canada and the United Kingdom will further increase their support for Ukraine. In April this year, the EU officially approved a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine, providing financial and military support to Ukraine from 2026 to 2027. The UK became the first non-EU country to join the scheme in July this year. (CCTV News)
