[Israeli Knesset approves additional defense budget of nearly NIS 15 billion] On September 23, the Knesset Finance Committee passed a budget bill, urgently approving an additional budget of nearly NIS 15 billion (approximately US$4.97 billion) for this year to the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the army to cope with the ongoing escalation of military operations. A statement issued by the Israeli Knesset that day stated that of this emergency appropriation, 11.75 billion NIS (approximately US$3.896 billion) was allocated directly from the national general reserve fund, and another 3 billion NIS (approximately US$995 million) came from structural reductions in existing defense spending and transportation budget projects.
