[Japan’s total population reduced to 122.97 million, with an aging rate of 29.4%, a record high] September 29th, Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announced the confirmed value of the 2025 census on the 29th. As of October 1, 2025, Japan’s total population, including foreigners, was 122,972,528 people, a decrease of 3,173,571 people, or 2.5%, from the last survey in 2020. Since the 2015 survey, there have been three consecutive negative growth times. The proportion of people over 65 years old in the total population (aging rate) is 29.4%, a record high. An increase of 0.9 percentage points from the previous survey.
