[United Nations: The situation in the Middle East may cause 22 million more people around the world to face food insecurity] October 3rd, the United Nations Women’s Agency released a report on October 2nd, local time, stating that continued tensions in the Middle East have blocked shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, pushed up global food prices, and put pressure on people’s livelihoods. The report predicts that by the end of 2026, about 22 million new people may face food insecurity around the world, of which about 53%, or 11.7 million, are women.
