[China urges to promote global development] On October 6, Sun Lei, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, spoke at the general debate of the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on the 5th, urging the international community to promote global development. He said that the current implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is seriously lagging behind, the development gap between the North and the South is widening, development resources are insufficient, and development momentum has declined. The international community needs to show its responsibility and inject new momentum into revitalizing global development. He made four points on this. First, we must anchor the strategic direction, always put development at the center of the international agenda, closely integrate the tasks and goals of the 2030 Agenda with the actual conditions of each country, improve medium and long-term strategies, and maintain policy continuity and stability. To deepen the reform of the United Nations, all development agencies must improve quality and efficiency, help countries improve their development plans, and formulate long-term and stable implementation, supervision and evaluation mechanisms. Second, we must respond to the people's expectations and increase investment in areas related to people's well-being such as poverty reduction, food and energy security, and environmental protection. Emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital economy, and green energy must adhere to a people-oriented and upward approach, so that the results of scientific and technological innovation can truly benefit the world. China launched the World Cooperation Organization on Artificial Intelligence with the purpose of supporting capacity building in the global South and bridging the digital and intelligence divide. China welcomes all parties to actively join and share the dividends of intelligence. Third, we must adhere to pragmatic cooperation and action orientation, face difficulties, and solve bottlenecks and key issues that restrict global development cooperation. Developed countries must earnestly implement their commitments on development financing and climate finance. Promote substantial progress in the reform of the international financial architecture as soon as possible and expand the representation and voice of developing countries. It is necessary to restore the normal operation of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism and promote WTO rules to keep pace with the times. Fourth, we must carry forward the spirit of helping each other and build a global development partnership that is united, equal, balanced and beneficial to all. We must oppose "decoupling and disconnection" and trade protectionism, and promote inclusive economic globalization. He said that this year marks the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative. China is willing to continue to work with other countries to promote cooperation on global development initiatives, support the 2030 Agenda, and make greater contributions to building a prosperous and beautiful world.
