On October 10, the Intermediate People's Court of Shangqiu City, Henan Province publicly sentenced Zhou Xianwang, a former party member and vice chairman of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, for accepting bribes in the first instance. The defendant Zhou Xianwang was sentenced to 14 years in prison for accepting bribes and fined RMB 5 million. The property and interest obtained from Zhou Xianwang's crimes recovered were turned over to the state treasury in accordance with the law, and the remaining part continued to be recovered. The trial found that: from the first half of 2003 to May 2025, the defendant Zhou Xianwang used his position as deputy secretary and governor of the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture Party Committee in Hubei Province, secretary and director of the Party Leadership Group of the Hubei Provincial Department of Commerce, secretary of the Huangshi Municipal Party Committee, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Hubei Provincial Government and deputy governor, deputy secretary of the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee, deputy mayor, acting mayor, and mayor of Hubei Province. Members and vice-chairmen of the Party Leadership Group of the Northern Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and deputy provincial-level leading cadres of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, have provided assistance to relevant units and individuals in matters such as project contracting, business operations, administrative approval, etc., and have received a total of more than RMB 60.5 million in property from the above-mentioned units and individuals.
